What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is present in our blood. It plays a very important role in the body. Generally, our cells produce cholesterol, and the hormones in our body are also formed because of it. The most important thing is that it also helps in the production of Vitamin D.
Cholesterol is a fat-like substance found in your blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build cells, make hormones, and produce vitamin D.
But having too much cholesterol can be harmful.
Types of Cholesterol
LDL (Bad Cholesterol)
When the density of cholesterol in the blood becomes low, we call it LDL.
The biological reference range for LDL cholesterol is 0–130 mg/dL, which falls under the normal category.
If the value is 131–155 mg/dL, then it comes under the borderline category.
If it is 160 mg/dL or above, then it falls under the high category.
- Full form: Low-Density Lipoprotein
- It can build up in your arteries and block blood flow.
- High LDL increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.
HDL (Good Cholesterol)
When the density of cholesterol in the blood becomes High, we call it HDL. Iski jo biological referene range hota hai wo 40-60
- Full form: High-Density Lipoprotein
- It helps remove bad cholesterol from the blood.
- High HDL is good for heart health.
Triglycerides
After HDL and LDL, there is another type of cholesterol-related component found in the blood called triglycerides.
Its biological reference range is as follows:
- 0–150 mg/dL → Normal
- 151–199 mg/dL → Borderline
- 200–499 mg/dL → High
- 500 mg/dL and above → Very High
- Another type of fat in the blood.
- High levels increase heart disease risk.

Why Is Cholesterol Important?
Balanced cholesterol helps:
Keep your heart healthy
When your cholesterol stays balanced, your heart remains healthy. This is because when the flow of blood to the heart is proper, the heart automatically stays healthy.
To understand how to keep the heart healthy or how we can define a healthy heart, you can check the link given below:
Maintain smooth blood circulation
When a person’s cholesterol level is normal, there won’t be excess cholesterol in the blood. As a result, the blood circulation will automatically remain smooth, and the speed of blood flow in the body will stay properly maintained.
Prevent artery blockage
If no clots form in the blood, then blockage will never occur. When the cholesterol level is normal, there is no risk of blockage
Reduce heart disease risk
When cholesterol levels are normal, the risk of a heart attack is reduced.
Too much cholesterol can:
- Block arteries
- Increase blood pressure
- Cause heart attacks or strokes
How to Control Cholesterol Naturally

- Avoid fried and oily foods

- Exercise regularly
- Maintain healthy weight
- Avoid smoking and alcohol
